flickr

Slight change of plans... I uploaded all of the images to flickr because it was infinitely faster than uploading to facebook. I uploaded all 400+ to flickr with just a couple of keyboard strokes while uploading to facebook was slower than Christmas with only FIVE images being allowed at a time and the searching... geez louise. Yep, flickr is "the place" to load photos fast.

engaged

As of December 5th 2009, I am engaged.

I am busy crafting wedding stuffs as well as crafting fabulous items from old clothes and reclaimed fabric scraps. Wedding stuffs are for me and have a deadline. The rest... help me relax when wedding planning or everyday life get to be too much or when I just need a break and a moment or three to make something else. Once. :)

Most of the wedding stuffs are repeats - items that I need to make look identical either five or one hundred and seventy five times.

My daughter took pictures for me of my entire current inventory group, which I am uploading to facebook in another window. I will be listing these items on etsy this week as time permits. Convo me on etsy or message me on facebook - if you would like a custom or reserved listing.

i spent the day at Ford's Landing

Happy first Saturday after Thanksgiving. Tired of turkey yet? :) Well, I didn't brave the malls this year on Black Friday. Nor did I brave the malls today. Instead I spent the day at Ford's Landing tending to my booth space and sharing my wares with those in attendance at this annual event.

To quote their site,

Christmas season is fast approaching, Fords Landing is always excited to host and invite you to their annual Christmas on the Farm. This event provides a country alternative to the hustle-bustle of city shopping and stuffy mall photos of Santa. The event is kicked off with our faithful, jolly Santa arriving on a small pony carriage. He then sits outside with your children and reads them a Christmas story. A new and unique photo scene is offered each year for Santa and all the children who come see him. This year, that theme is 'In The Barn Yard with Santa'. Live music, petting zoo, hayrides, home-cooked chili, games, make-it-take-it Christmas crafts and a Country store with several local vendors are among a few of the event’s highlights with a down-home family atmosphere. source
Before I left Ford's Landing this afternoon, I promised myself that I would definitely attend next year as well. It was a fun event put on by a couple of wonderful people. The other vendors were fabulous and those in attendance were full of good cheer. Definitely a great way to start the Christmas shopping season!!!

a look ahead and twenty five things in my shop

I currently have eighty products listed in my shop with many more made but not yet photographed or listed on etsy. I have three craft shows lined up for November 28th, December 3rd, and December 5th respectively. I have oodles of sewing to do between now and then as well as bunches of photographing and planning details of my set-up at the shows. I have not yet "done" a craft show so I'm getting a crash course this holiday season.

a word about the silence

Though this space hasn't been updated in over a month, I have been online *and* sewing. I have been updating my tumblr account daily (and sometimes way more than that) since the month began. And before that I had a different tumblr account but that's another story. Anyway, what brings me out of blog hibernation is a renewed energy in posting/selling my wares.

You see, I simply have more crafty goodness sewn up than our little house can hold comfortably plus given the fact that I have rescued more stashed fabric from my storage building in addition to raiding my soon-to-be grandmother's craft closet.. uh yeah, I have more crafty notions than this 900+ sq. ft. house can accommodate.

I will be photographing items shortly and posting to etsy as well as sewing up some more stuff because well, my sewing machine is calling my name. Hmm... I need to think up a name for her too. Yes, my sewing machine is female. ;)

amazon isn't just a rain forest that needs saving

It seems that I'm on a hiatus of sorts with regard to new bags but I'm not on a hiatus from sewing crafty goodness from old clothes. You see, I made a super cute baby blanket / quilt and I've been steadily working on the quilting / tacking aspect of this project. I posted a picture on my squarespace blog - http://newusesforoldclothes.org - as well as on my facebook account. I am looking forward to making more of these baby blankets in the not too distant future. Maybe even one (or three) for myself. ;)

The great thing about this blanket is that I used several old tshirts on this project. The backing is new unbleached cotton. The green print fabric is from a pair of pajama pants. The single O block is from my fabric destash, while my darling daughter embroidered the O for her new cousin-to-be due at the end of November.

hasta la vista artfire

I decided late last night that I was going to quit paying Artfire $12 a month for a verified account because I'm just throwing that money away unless I'm making $12 a month plus in sales using their service, which I'm not. Thus the decision.

I don't have anything against the site but I'm happy with Etsy and see no benefit to paying Artfire's monthly fee. This may or may not change in the future. I'll reconsider as necessary.

been awhile

I have been busy updating the other blog [on squarespace] as well as sewing crafty goodness plus my teen daughter is involved in a couple of summer activities and to top it all off, I"m volunteering at our local library on Tuesday and Thursdays while the library staff puts on the summer reading program.

The majority of the bags that I'm making right now use denim in some form or fashion. I have so many tshirt totes in my etsy shop that I'm more than a little afraid to add any more - I think the current count is twenty-seven (27) - and these pants totes are a joy to make. Due to their size and construction, pants totes require more brain power when I sew 'em up, which I like, and choosing a multitude of nifty fabrics is fun.

I adore putting together a patchwork of fabrics and seeing them create a beautifully functional piece of art.

I found a fellow crafter the other day who is also on squarespace but I wanted to share her crafty skills here with you. Check her out at http://tigglegiggles.squarespace.com

On my way back from a fantastic long weekend and I have some Crow Creek inspired crafty projects in mind that I'd like to see to fruition this summer.

After I feed the dogs, which I'm doing at this very moment, I'm going to fire up my sewing machine and get busy making my personal goal for today (eight bags).

tuesday to-do list

I plan to sew the rest of the day away. Well, at least between when I publish this entry and the time I need to leave to pick my daughter up from school. I need to update my pictures this week with SOLD (as applicable) and photograph the rest.
